Dingue de Toi – Domaine des Cognettes (2018)

Grape Variety(s): Sauvignon Gris

Style: Dry White
Region: Loire, France

Winemaker: Stephane & Vincent Perraud

Soil: Poor Granite/Pepples/Sand
Age of Vines: 8 yrs

From a tiny .5 hectare vineyard (1.25 acres) of Sauvignon Gris, comes this delicious and unique new wine from the Perraud brothers. “Dingue de Toi” or “Crazy About You” is Vincent’s love letter to his lovely wife Isabelle. Planted just in 2010, these are young vines harvested on the later side. A ripe wine, full of character from a grape not typically grown in this area of France. Vincent calls it a “southern wine” as the grape is much more common in the SW of France.

Ripe tropical notes, a bit of a waxy/nutty character, and potent flowers really set this wine off! This would be great with a rich chicken or fish dish. Enjoy!

Lacryma Christi Rosso – Poggio delle Baccanti (2018)

Grape Variety(s): Piederosso/Aglianico

Style: Dry Red
Region: Lacryma Christi (Vesuvius)

Winemaker: Rafaele de Mura Soil: Volcanic
Age of Vines: 20-30 yrs

POGGIO DELLE BACCANTI is located in Sant’Antonio Abate, next to Naples in the Penisola Sorrentina, overlooking Mt Vesuvius. They have been making Neapolitan wines for 3 generations and they specialize in Gragnano, Lacryma Christi Bianco, and Lacryma Christi Rosso. The winery farms organically and wines are all made with extremely low amounts of sulfur, and no sulfur at all in the Gragnano Ancestrale.

The name of the region, literally “Tears of Christi” earns its name from the myth that Christ shed tears when Lucifer fell from heaven over this land, represented by lava scars on the sides of Mt. Vesuvius.

LACRYMA CHRISTI ROSSO 2018: A Piedirosso/Aglianico blend partially done in steel and in used oak barrels. Vines are about 20-30 years old and come from Mt Vesuvius. Maceration is for about 2 weeks. It’s a smoky wine of a certain structure and depth but still versatile and perfect for pizza.
